At PDP SEC inauguration, Sen Ekwunife urges members to shun self interest

Ahead of November 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra state, the member representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Senator Uche Ekwunife, has urged party leaders and faithfuls to shun self interest and sycophancy.

Sen. Ekwunife, who is the chairperson, Peoples Democratic Party’s Governorship Campaign Organisation, made the call during the inauguration of the State Election Council on Sunday, in Awka, Anambra state capital.

The chairperson told her audience to ensure commitment, dedication, as well as to demonstrate creativity and innovation as the party seeks to overthrow the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). 

According to her, this is not the time for gallivanting or seeking personal interest. We are call to serve, and this we must demonstrate through our individual and collective actions for stable take over of power.

“We must ensure that our conducts do not drive away our supporters but bring them in, closer to the PDP project in the state. Let us remain united, committed to having a workable and stable election in the local governments, and avoid acts capable of denting the image of the party. 

“The task ahead of us does not call for mere occupying of positions, rather, it is a call to service, so that Anambra State will maintain stable and effective leadership come 2022. Therefore, this meeting is not only targeted at inaugurating SEC, it is also a platform for us to share and reflect on the Council’s Terms of Reference, and set preliminary timelines for setting up a formidable election management in 21 LGAs and 326 electoral Wards. 

“I want to emphasize that while reflecting on the task before us, no less is expected of us than our utmost best, which calls for dedication and commitment. More importantly, your demonstration of ingenuity, creativity, innovation and pro-activeness in the handling of both individual and group tasks shall provide the magic that will enable us overcome our opponents. 

“Therefore, your conduct and performance must at all times reflect your sensitivity to the needs, for our candidate to emerge victorious come November 6, 2021”, she stressed. 

While reminding the team members of their expectations and terms of reference, Ekwunife, a former governorship aspirant in Anambra, told participants to leave no stone unturned until the PDP Governorship standard bearer in the November 6 election, Mr. Valentine Chineto Ozigbo, emerged victorious. She described Mr. Ozigbo’s emergence as divine, and stressed the need to give him unalloyed support. 

In a remark, the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, assured that they would give the flagbearer maximum support, and urged the council members to do their best for the party saying that the party.

Mr. Ozigbo, had, in a vote of thanks, urged the members of the election council to employ teamwork and hard work as they execute their tasks. He enjoined them to imbibe spirit of sacrifice and oneness. 

While urging other aggrieved members of the party to sheath their sword and unite to build a better, stronger party in the state, Mr. Ozigbo, a former Transcorp Plc boss, told his audience to sieze the opportunity of the ongoing INEC continuous voters registration to galvanise over 200,000 voters for the party.

Orient Daily reports that chairmen, deputies and secretaries and other members of the campaign organisation in the 21 local government areas in the state, party leaders and chieftain, women and youth leaders, were present during the inauguration of the Anambra State Election Council for Mr. Ozigbo governorship ambition.
