Former labour and employment minister Chief Emeka Wogu has advised the new management of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to discharge its duties with integrity.

Wogu gave the advice on Monday in Abuja while reacting to the appointment of Dr Michael Akabogu as Managing Director of the fund.

Recall that the new NSITF boss worked as the Technical Adviser to Wogu during the latter’s time as minister in charge of the fund.

Wogu said that Akabogu was eminently qualified to occupy the position going by his academic qualifications, experience on the job, integrity, and determination.

He said that the new NSITF boss had not only been around the ministry for a while but had served in different capacities.

“I can vouch for the integrity, honesty, and character of the new NSITF boss.

He worked under me to put together all documents that led to the recognition of the agency by the constitution,” he said.

The former minister said that Akabogu had the full knowledge of NSITF, knew the inherent problems, and was in a better position to turn the agency around.

“He is going to step into areas where the angels trekked; he is going to step into a very difficult terrain but he would succeed.

“He knows where the banana peels are and he is somebody I can vouch for.

“He has the integrity, honesty and determination to change the way things had been done,” he said.

The new management of NSITF was inaugurated on June 1, to pilot the affairs of the agency for four years.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on July 1, 2020 approved the suspension from office of the former managing director, three executive directors, and nine other senior management officers of the fund.

The suspension was due to the established 126 prima facie violation of the extant Financial Regulations and Procurement Act and other acts of gross misconduct.
