The wife of Anambra governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has called on unemployed women to enrol in her `Caring Family Enhancement Initiative’, (CAFÉ), to be trained. Obiano made the call on Wednesday in Neni, Anaocha local government area, during her tour of the 179 communities of the state. She said the tour was necessitated by the annual August general meeting of the women in the state, which was targeted at showcasing the gains of the just concluded state `Mother Summit’. “Women need to be well groomed and re-groomed on their roles in home building and development. We cannot be tired of talking to the women on doing the needful. “It is very vital that women engage in any economic activity to support their family’s source of livelihood alongside their husband’s efforts to keep the home stable,’’ she said. The governor’s wife said that CAFÉ would train unemployed women, who desired to be economically stable for free in any micro enterprise of their choice. Obiano said that the annual tour provided an opportunity for her to interact with women in their communities on their problems, programmes and way forward for a better society. “Quality deliberations are done by the women at this annual women’s meeting, so we use it to enlighten women on the right attitude. With this, I will be able to brief the governor appropriately on the yearnings of women, who are the home builders on getting first-hand information on their challenges. “I am committed to the welfare of an average Anambra woman, whether residing in here or outside, so we need to rob minds as wives and mothers for the common good of the state,” she said. Obiano said that no fewer than 4, 600 women benefited from the CAFÉ scheme and assured that those who would turn up for the skills acquisition would have free start-up capital on completion of the training. The president, Neni Women Development Union, Mrs Oby Obodozie, said that 55 indigent women had been selected to be empowered by CAFÉ. “We are happy with this annual practice to touch the lives of women, we commend the governor’s wife for empowering women to be self-reliant,’’ she said. Obiano, on August 2, hosted a `Mother’s Summit’ in Awka with the theme; “Promoting Gender Balance and Social Values”. At the end of the tour, it is expected that selected indigent widows, children and less privileged would be empowered with food items and stipends to improve their living standards.

The governor’s wife had visited Awka North and South; Orumba North and South, Aguata and Anaocha for similar meetings. (NAN)
