A wedding ceremony is a special day for two people who have come together to make, hopefully, life-long vows to each other, usually in the presence of their families and friends. The last thing any witness to this special day would want to do is ruin it for the couple or make it memorable for the wrong reasons. This article will aim to reduce your difficulty and give you ideas to pick the perfect outfit for a wedding ceremony. It will also give you guidelines so you will know what is not required in your outfit for the event.
Ladies:
White attires: Try as much as possible to stay clear from wearing all-white attires to a wedding ceremony. It also goes to the guys; the only person in the room wearing white should be the bride, it’s not your wedding so why are you dressing like a bride? Except if you are a bride’s maid and that is the colour of the bridal train. No white gown or Iro and buba in some lacy fabric. Even if the bride herself is dressed in black.
Don’t upstage the bride and groom: You should not be brighter than a peacock at its own mating dance. It goes to the guys as well; no sexy outfit that will draw all attention to you for the wrong reasons. No regal native chief outfit that will have people ignoring the couple and focus on you. Keep all that at home and for once be a guest or a nice humble being here to celebrate someone else.
All-black: This is a wedding not a funeral. I’m not saying you can’t wear black, but there are options to choose from. But if you insist on wearing black, at least make an effort to liven it up with a print or put on a colourful accessories (no red on black it may look cultist or bitchy).
Sequins and shrine: You’re a wedding guest, not a disco ball this day isn’t about you. Stop trying to be the centre of attention; just make sure you are only using bling as an accent, not making it your whole look.

Guys:
Shot: Shot is too casual for a wedding. You are not going to a beach party. Dress appropriately, leave your shot at home and dress in a nice suit or fitted senator suit, and Agbada.
Shot sleeve dress shirt: Wear a shirt with proper sleeves. No polo shirt; it is not acceptable either. Dress up properly it won’t kill you. Don’t dress too official and don’t dress too casual, look simple and good.
Baseball cap: Baseball or fez cap is meant for a casual look not a wedding ceremony. You are not going to watch a baseball or football match or even going for clubbing to put on that cap. Try to look good and dress smartly for the hours you will be in the event.
Views from streets:
It’s said that in most Nigeria wedding, traditional attire (native) should be the outfit of the day to feel the traditional atmosphere, especially in a traditional wedding from senator suit to Agbada, Aso abi. Here are what people are saying are their best outfit for the ceremony
Oyeyiga Mary: I would prefer a lovely fashionable gown and a high heel shoe just to look smart and presentable.
Okafor Anthony: I will love a nice fitted native wear for the event to look good.
Nneka Anaedo: An ankra jumpsuit would be the best outfit for me as a guest in a wedding.
Nduneseokwu Nnamdi: A wine red senator should be perfect for me and a red cap.
