Following an unfortunate fire incident in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, caused by adulterated Kerosene sold to the victims of the area, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has directed the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), and other relevant government agencies to investigate thoroughly and determine those responsible for importing the harmful products into the State.

The Governor also directed the Commissioner for Health, Dr Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Ifeanyi Aguijiobi, to ensure that all those who suffered any bodily injury are effectively provided with the best available medical care at the expense of the State government.

The governor’s directives were contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, which conveyed the State government’s sincere condolences to the families that lost their loved ones as a result of the adulterated petroleum product.

The statement equally empathized with the victims who suffered any form of bodily injury or loss of property arising from the unfortunate situation. Aroh stressed that the state government “is deeply saddened by the reports of fatalities and grievous bodily injuries resulting from the sale of adulterated petroleum products in Nsukka and Igbo-Etiti Local Government Areas of the State”.

The Commissioner for Information added that “the Chairmen of the affected Local Government Areas have equally been directed to carry out a detailed appraisal of the situation as it concerns their respective Council areas and report back to the State government for further action”.

Gov Ugwuanyi on returning from Abuja on Sunday, after participating in series of meetings of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), visited the ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, to empathize with the hospitalized survivors of the unfortunate fire incidents caused by the adulterated kerosene. The Governor who was received at the hospital by the Chief Medical Director, ESUT-TH Parklane, Enugu, Prof. Hyacinth Onah and the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Dr Ifeanyi Agujiobi, was accompanied by the State Chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Augustine Nnamani.
