Two Benue traditional rulers in police net over soldiers’ killing

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, yesterday, announced that some persons, including two traditional rulers, had been handed over to security operatives for interrogation in connection with the killing of 12 soldiers by armed bandits at Konshisha local government area of the state recently. 

The governor disclosed that those sent to the law enforcement agents for questioning included the district head of Iwaarnyam, Chief Unaha Koko, Hon. Mela Iyange, the councillor representing, Mbatser, Mbangise, kindred head of Mbatogh, Emmanuel Achirgbenda and deputy chairman, Hon Sam Kave, all in Konshisha local government area of the state. 

He further explained that an expanded meeting involving traditional rulers, the military, law enforcement agents, the state executive council and other relevant stakeholders from Konshisha local government area was convened over the killings of  the 12 military men with a view to finding lasting solution to the impasse. 

He informed that weapons were recovered and efforts intensified to get the remaining three missing guns belonging to the military victims. 

Governor Ortom seized the opportunity to express gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the patience and understanding he demonstrated, especially the cooperation extended to him and people of the state when the incident erupted.

According to Ortom, the matter could have escalated beyond human imagination, pointing out that all hands were on deck to ensure the perpetrators were brought to book. 

According to Governor Ortom, “I am determined to ensure something is done to cushion the agony of wives of the fallen heroes with a view to ameliorating their condition. 

The governor also commended the minister of defence for yielding to his appeal when it was obvious that more destruction could be recorded.
