The Abia state police command has arrested two suspected kidnappers, identified as Ikechi Monday and Onyekachi Orji for their roles in the kidnap of Mrs. Patricia Nwogu, in Okpolu Umuobo in Osisioma Ngwa local government area of the state, on January 29, 2021.

SP Johnbull Obioguru, commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and his men apprehended the suspects in Owerrinta, Isiala Ngwa South local government area of Abia state.

The suspects who were arrested on Monday, March 9, 2021, are currently giving useful information to the police.

In another development, the RRS team, last Saturday in Aba, also arrested Chima Nnamdi and Uzoma Chinemerem, who specialised in robbing POS operators.

The two suspects had robbed a POS operator, Chijioke Ebirilem, at Ehi Road by East Street, Aba and shot him dead at close range. Ebirilem, who was rushed to the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba was later confirmed dead by doctors.

The Obioguru-led team also apprehended one Onyekachi Kalu, 28, who is a member of another phone snatching and POS robbery gang in Aba.

Kalu’s gang is said to be experts in selling telephone subscriber identification module [SIM] cards of the stolen phones to advance fee fraudsters who use such to access the SIM owners’ bank account details and steal their funds. However, luck ran out on him when men of RRS on patrol got information from the public on their criminal activities at Ngwa road, by Orji Uzor Kalu Bridge.

The policemen arrested Kalu, while his accomplices escaped.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, Mrs Janet Agbede, has assured that criminals would be run out of town and urged members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without fear. The CP also appealed to the public to report any suspicious movements or characters to the police to enable them serve the people better.

The men had, on February 5, 2021, arrested one Nnamdi Promise (aka Ghaddafi), and his crime crew, including Chinomso Samuel, Ogbuji Chibuike and Stephen Ogbonna, robbery suspects who belong to a notorious Aro cult in Aba.
