Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has maintained that the advertised sale or privatization of government-owned enterprises is in compliance with the state’s constitutional provision on Privatization and Commercialization of Enterprises in the State and for Purposes Connected Therewith 2010.

Governor Ortom made this known while briefing journalists on the subject matter at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi, following criticism by members of the opposition that all the companies listed for privatization were moribund and were draining government resources through security for such facilities.

The governor pointed out that some of the public enterprises had not even taken off since they were established.

He therefore advised Benue people with the financial capacity to seize the opportunity to own a company as stakeholders meetings between the privatization council and host communities of the listed enterprises would soon be held as a further step towards completion of the privatization process.

Governor Ortom further explained that interested persons could put forward proposals either for outright purchase or concession as allowed by the law.

He said that criticism of the exercise by the opposition was a deliberate ploy to divert attention from the massive defections from their parties owing to leadership failure.
