Police in Ogun have arrested four members of a fraud syndicate in Ijebu-Ode area of the state for allegedly defrauding a 26-year-old woman, Imoleayo Ashade a sum of N1.3 million.
The suspects: Salau Taiwo, Ifakunle Adeyemi, Tajudeen Jimoh and Adebayo Akeem, were arrested when the police in a joint operation with the Odua Peoples Congress and local vigilante stormed their hideout at a forest in Ijegun area of Ijebu-Ode.
On getting to their hideout in the forest the police discovered that the suspects have a shrine and also engage in washing of international currencies including dollars, pound sterlings, Euro which they use to deceive and defraud their victims.
The Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, who conducted newsmen around the hideout of the suspects said that the suspects were arrested after their victim, Ashade had lodged a complaint at the Awa-Ijebu division of the police.
The CP explained that the victim was sometimes in December, year 2020, accosted by two members of the syndicate, who appealed to her to assist them to find a place to sleep overnight because they were stranded and had nowhere to stay for the night
Ajogun further explained that the suspects later became the friends of the victim and were able to hypnotise her which made it easier for them to lure her to their hideout and force her to swear an oat at their shrine before they duped her the sum of N 1,310,000.
Speaking the victim, Ashade said that the suspects under the pretence of reciprocating her kindness promised to assist her with charms to boost her petty trade and in the process hypnotise her and swindle her a large amount of money.
