Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday pledged to support women in the state to enact laws that would curb sexual and gender-based violence in the society.

This was just as the assembly also announced the confirmation of former deputy clerk, Barr. Funmilayo Adeyemi, in substantive capacity. She took the oath of office and allegiance administered by Barr. George Oyeniyi.

The speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, stated this while addressing a delegation of women under the aegis of Gender and Constitution Reforms Network (GERCON) led by Dr Abiola Akinyode, in commemoration of the Pan African Women’s Day.

Oluomo assured that members of the 9th legislature were irrevocably committed to giving due priority to issues relating to female participation and gender equality with a view to advancing their social and economic status.

He said that the assembly were ready to partner with relevant stakeholders to make legislations that would check the menace of sexual and gender-based violence in the state

“In its resolve to further promote a just society devoid of gender discrimination and disparity, the Ogun State House of Assembly has assured women groups in the State of its readiness to partner with all relevant organizations towards enacting legislations that would curb sexual and gender-based violence.” the speaker stressed.
