Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ebonyi State command has apprehended 15 persons for stealing and vandalising street light cables installed by the state government across the state within five months.

The state NSCDC Commandant Mrs. Chinwe Kanu, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen  in Abakaliki, explained that four among the 15 suspects are still facing trial in court while one person is serving sentence in Abakaliki prisons.

“The command under five months I assumed office as commandant of the state has arrested 15 persons for stealing and vandalizing the street light cables installed by the state government”, she stressed.

Kanu, who said the refusal of dealers on electronic facilities to resister with relevant state government authority as duly directed was why the vandalisation of government electronic insulation was in the increase.

“The cause of this stealing and vandalising of street light cable common among youths is cause by bad companies and the inability of those selling electricity apparatus in the state to cooporate with state government.

“And until date, those selling electricity cable in the state have been directed to register with the state but it is unfortunate that none of them have come to do that despite the fact that the registration is free”, she stressed.

She added that the command also sealed three illegal mining  sites situated at Ikwo, Ezza North and Izzi local government areas of the state.

“The command which has the mandate also to check illegal mining has equally sealed three major mining sites in three local government of the state; Ikwo, Ezza North and Enigba in Izzi,” she said.

She called the youths of the state to shun crime and be law abiding.
