There is no room for friendship and free sex in prostitution, according to an Onitsha based commercial sex worker, who identified herself as Chinwa. She says ashawo work is all about ‘pay before service’ or if you prefer to call it, ‘money for hand, back for bed!’
Chinwa made the clarification in the presence of an Orient Weekend reporter, when a middle aged man and her regular customer approached her with a request to sleep with her on credit, promising to make payment when next he comes around.
The male customer had told Chinwa thus, “Chinwa, we are now friends because whenever I come to this place (Upper Iweka) it is you that I take home among the call-girls that parade themselves every night here. It is not that I can’t change you but I now see you as my special lady, who I can share my feelings with and not just to have sex. That I don’t have money here does not mean I am bankrupt. Just bear with me for now, after all, I have not owed you a kobo since I have been patronizing you”.
However, the plea fell on deaf ears. Unmoved, Chinwa responded, “Oga, leave it until the day you will have money because I have my financial obligations waiting to be attended to. It is from the money I realise from it that I buy drugs to maintain my health and feed my siblings, aged parents and pay for house rent.
“You cannot just keep me awake all night hitting me like punching bag, and in the morning, I will just go empty handed all in the name of friendship; and I will incur the pains. Must you go for day break? Why not look for little money and go for short time? I will go my way until the day you will be buoyant”.
The man, very infuriated, retorted, “You people remain what you are, prostitutes without friends. When next I come around, I will not look for you, because you like money more than me. “
