By Phil Okose, OnitshaBusiness activities were yesterday paralysed in Onitsha and environs, Anambra state, in solidarity to Nnamdi Kanu over his trial billed  for mention last Monday.Consequently, all markets in Onitsha, Ogbaru, Ogidi, Nkpor, among others, were shut and major roads that included the ever-busy Onitsha/Owerri road, Onitsha/Enugu expressway and Onitsha/Asaba/Benin/Lagos expressway blocked which forced inter-state travellers to be stranded. However, the Onitsha end of the Niger Bridge head approach was not blocked as inter-state road users passed through the bridge smoothly. At Onitsha/Owerri road, suspected IPOB members masked themselves, made bon fires with tyres and turned road users back to their respective homes on the process. The popular Onitsha Main Market was completely shut down and commercial buses that normally ply to and from Onitsha were nowhere to be seen even as few tricycles operated out of fear of attack by IPOB members. Most of the roads that were deserted included, old market, new market, Oguta, Awka, Bright Street, Ojedi and Zik’s Avenue, among others. A trader who pleaded anonymity told this paper that, “this is to tell the federal government that if anything happens to Kanu we will set this country on fire. This is just the beginning.”“Let me also warn that Sunday Ugboho should be set free as what he is doing is legal. He is a freedom fighter, like Kanu,” he warned. At the court premises the gates were under lock and key as the judicial staff were nowhere to be seen. The only person met at the high court gate told this reporter that, “we are on holiday today because IPOB said we should be at home irrespective of who you are.”

At the popular post office axis where all newspaper stands are located, free readers and IPOB members capitalised on the present situation to crack jokes and discuss the Nnamdi Kanu court saga.
