The Multimillion Naira Onitsha Correctional Services Skills Acquisition Centre solely built by Archbishop Valeria Maduka Okeke The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha Catholic Diocese will finally kick start operation in October this year.
The skill acquisition centre which is expected to train the inmates of the Onitsha Correctional Services on every aspect of skills acquisition was started a few years ago by the Archbishop as part of his prison apostolate.
Disclosing this while delivering a sermon to the prisoners during his usual periodic visitation to Onitsha Correctional Service to celebrate his birthdays held last Easter Sunday, Archbishop Okeke urged the prisoners as well as all those who are in difficulties to trust in God to help them, adding that they should not give up their belief in God to see them through in whatever they are passing through.
While noting that the implications of our Lord Jesus Christ death and resurrection showed that nothing is impossible with God, he admonished the prisoners to bear it in mind that in God there is no accidents adding that when something is happening in their lives that they should follow it with having abundant faith in God as well as indulging in constant prayers to overcome.
“Despite all bad situations you find yourselves, if you have faith you will see the glory of God, I urge you all to celebrate Easter because it is a celebration of victory of God Who has shamed the wicked power of this world, demystified impossibilities to become possibilities” he said,
Responding, Mr. Peter Patrick Chukwuemeka the Controller of Correctional Services Anambra State Command thanked and appreciated the Archbishop on his numerous philanthropic gestures to the Onitsha Correctional Services noting that if many well placed Nigerians and other men of God can do half of what the Archbishop is doing to help the poor and less privileged especially the prisoners in the country that the nation will benefit immensely.
He urged the Archbishop not to relent but to continue impacting positively to the society and as well pleaded to the him to use his influence to appeal to the Anambra state government to introduce a WAEC Examination Centre as well as open University Study Centre in the Onitsha Correctional Service.
