The minister for special duties and inter-governmental affairs, Senator George Akume, has commended the chairman of the Warri North local government area of Delta state, Smart Asekutu, for what was described as his efforts in projects execution in the area.
Akume gave the commendation in Koko, the Warri North local government area headquarters, during a peer review assessment visit in continuation of spotlighting the activities of the 774 council areas in the country on Wednesday
Represented by Mr. Kayode Adebayo, Akume said that there was the urgent need for Nigerians to see the effects of infrastructural developments through local government administration in Nigeria. He revealed that the visit was to spotlight the financial prudence and proper prioritisation of projects in council areas all over the federation, towards the justification of the creation of local government councils, as defined by the 1979 Constitution.
Asekutu, on his part, described the visit as divine, strategic and a unique opportunity to consolidate his developmental strides, even within the short period of his being the council chairman.
He said that the staff in the council and the good people of the area were very supportive in the drive to provide priority projects for the people, despite the difficult terrain in the council area.
The council boss attributed the developmental success in the area to the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, for his visible developmental projects across the state, adding that there was no council area left out in the governor’s development programme in the state.
The council chairman commended the minister for his lofty idea of bringing local government administration in the federation to the notice of the international community.
