Flooding: CENGOs donates food items to Anambra community

A group under the aegis of Coalition of Eastern Non Governmental Organisations (CENGOs), Anambra chapter, has donated food items to flood victims in Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state.

The gesture, Orient Daily reports, was aimed at bringing succour to the the flood victims as well as to determine the level of sexual gender-based cases experienced in the camps.

Speaking during the visit to Idikacho Women in governance (IWIG) affected by flood victims, the CENGOs coordinator, Prof. Mercy Anagbogu, represented by the State Programme Officer, Mazi Oluebube Ngige, said part of the activities of the group was to offer good works of charity to the people.

Prof. Anagbogu said, “We heard of the way flood affected our people in the state, and we decided to provide feeding support for flood victims in selected IDP Camps in Ogbaru, Anambra state, and to assess the level of Sexual Gender-Based violence (SGBV) cases that may have risen in the camp and provide assistance.

“CENGOs is an umbrella organisation of non-governmental organisations working on human rights in the old Eastern region of Nigeria – Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa states”, the group added.

Responding on behalf of IWIG, Augustina Mbanefo commended Prof. Anagbogu and others “who have shared in our suffering bjuy coming to our aid and supporting us with relief materials. This gesture is appreciatedand will not not be forgotten in a hurry”.

Other CENGOs members present at the event were Nnenna Okeke, Theresa Obialor, Anthony Onyia, among others.
