Federal Lawmaker Calls for More Investment in Agricultural Research

Member representing Njikoka, Anaocha, and Dunukofia Federal Constituency, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo has called for more private and government interventions in the agricultural sectors of the economy.

The lawmaker made the call, Friday, at Enugwu-Ukwu Civic Center, Njikoka Local Government of Anambra State, when the newly admitted students of Federal College of Agriculture Isiagu, Enugwu-Ukwu Campus played host to him during the ceremony marking their maiden reception of admission letters and the kick-off of academic activities.

Recall that the federal institution which was the first of its kind in the constituency was attracted by Hon. Nwankwo – who out of love for education went on to offer over 71 scholarships to the students of the Campus.

Addressing the students, Hon Nwankwo advised that “Education is the powerful tool to change the world. If you don’t joke with this opportunity, the sky will be your limit.

“Agriculture has transcended our local system of subsistent farming. This institution will expose you to stuffs like agricultural engineering, agribusiness, food science, etc.

“The importance of research in agriculture in our today’s world cannot be overemphasized. I call upon government and private individuals to invest more in the sector.”

Summing up his speech, Nwankwo promised to liaise with his colleagues at the Green Chamber to make sure that the campus becomes an act of parliament to enable it benefits from the appropriation of the federal government.

Earlier, the paramount ruler of the community, Igwe Sir Ralph Ekpeh, ably represented by Chief Frank Nwokike, in the prayer over the kola thanked God for the grace of sitting the campus in Enugwu-Ukwu. He prayed for God’s grace and guidance in the administration of the campus.

In a vote of thanks, an officer of the institution, Mr. Robison Onyeagba, praised Nwankwo’s selfless attitude throughout the process of establishing the campus.

The beneficiaries of the scholarship could not hold their joy as they poured praises on Hon. Nwankwo.
