Family in grief as girl, 13, hangs self in Edo

A 13-year-old girl, identified as Precious Iwezoa, has allegedly hanged herself in Benin City, Edo state throwing her family into mourning and grief. 

It was gathered that a neighbour found precious who lived with her grandmother at No 6 Osagie Street off Lucky Way Road, Ikpoba Hill dead in their compound a situation that the neighbour alerted her family about the incident Edo state police command public relations officer, SP Kotongs Bello, who confirmed the incident, said that “Around 12 that was when the neighbour claimed to have entered the house after church service on Sunday and, immediately, she said, she opened the gate she saw the body of Precious Iwezoa.

She claimed to have raised the alarm that attracted the grandmother of Precious Iwezoa to the scene” Bello, saying that the teenager had been living with her grandmother since 2007, disclosed that upon interrogation, the grandmother Mrs Janet Ohioma, said that Precious Iwezoa helped her to heat her food and later sat in the living room watching television before the bubble burst adding that when the neighbour raised the alarm she didn’t believe until she was at the scene of the incident.

The PPRO however assured that investigation was ongoing, disclosing that the body of Precious Iwezoa had been removed and deposited at the Central Hospital mortuary for autopsy. He added that “It is sad for me reporting that 13-year-old girl who has not even started life is hanging herself for reasons only known to he because there was no suicide note and observing the body for now I can say there was no foul play but we will investigate the situation” Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has trained over 100 Contractors on the state’s electronic procurement system as part of the government’s efforts to ensure a transparent and accountable process in its public procurements.

The head of e procurement unit in Edo State Public Procurement Agency, Mr Ezekiel Obazee, who spoke to journalists in Benin City, said that the training would equip contractors with the necessary knowledge to bid for contract from any part of the world.
