Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, was a ghost of its busy self Thursday, September, 9, 2021, as business operators and other residents complied fully to the sit-at-home order issued by the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

IPOB in a statement had ordered residents in the South-East to sit-at-home to protest the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Imo State and demand the immediate release of their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who was detained by the Nigerian government.

Consequently, all the markets in Aba, including the famous Ariaria International Market, Ahia Ohuru and Shopping Centre and commercial motor parks were all shut down.

Commercial banks and other private offices and even government establishments did not also open for service on Thursday.

However, children turned the empty roads into playing grounds, as they were seen playing football on the free roads.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), a socio-political youth organizations in the South-East region of Nigeria, has appealed to the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to cancel the Monday, September 13, 2021 planned sit-at-home to enable students in the region to write their West African Examination Council (WAEC)English language examination.

COSEYL stated that not allowing these SS3 secondary school students to write the examination with their counterparts in the entire West Africa will be the worst disservice anyone can do to the students.

The group in a statement signed, by Hon. Goodluck Egwu Ibem, its president general and comrade Kanice Igwe, secretary general, COSEYL, observed that some of these students have written their Jamb exams, scored good grades and now wanting for the WAEC results to continue their education in higher institution of learning.

“This week, people sat-at-home on Monday and Thursday, sitting again on Monday and Tuesday will be disastrous to our people”, they observed.
