Chioma: from ordinary cook to millionaire chef

The Nigeria social media scope exploded and has been buzzing since millionaire hip hop music artist, David Adedeji Adeleke, aka Davido, presented his girlfriend, Chioma a N45 million worth brand new SUV as her birthday gift plus an endorsement deal worth over N60 million.

Davido’s multi-million empowerment of the young girl as part of the promotional campaign of the newly released hit track Assurance’ has since sent tongues wagging, fueling an unprecedented internet bedlam.

While some hailed the mega-rich artist as the new alter-ego of ‘real man’ for splashing out such amount on a mere girl friend, others view it as promotion of immorality and ostentatious lifestyle. “From the little I know about this young entertainer (Davido), he has had like two kids from other young women outside of wedlock, which unfortunately is very common in a society where it’s all about fame and money. A society where morality and positive virtues have been relegated to the background and it’s all about how much is in your bank account”, Femi Akinwumi, argues.

“By the way, I’m a fan of Davido, I admire his brilliance, hardwork and tenacity in an extremely competitive industry. How he was able to create his own niche, built his own brand, and move out of the shadow of his father at a relatively young age fascinates me. Being consistent and remaining on top of his game for such a long time in the entertainment industry is no mean feat. His lifestyle? Well, it’s yours to judge; that’s not my focus,” he adds.

A Facebook user, Chinyere Caring celebrated Davido as the real man. According to her, “any man who can’t fight for the betterment of his woman is not worth to be a boyfriend. A real man helps a woman achieve her dreams, build her future, improve her skills and connects her to jobs; not just taking her to bed, and forcing marriage on her. The world is changing. Real man projects his woman to the zenith for the world to see. They want her to fulfill her dream, not drag her with the traditional culture of limitations. Shout-out to the Real Men out there yes we know you all. Davido is the real man.”

Jules Omalicha, a social media critic was one of those who fired a jab at Chioma and Davido critics. She wrote on her Facebook wall: “Dear Facebook Morality Judges & ‘Rode Modems’, I know all your criticisms are not all about values, ideals and virtues. I know it is laced with something light or hard. I heard when you asked, what kind of a ‘rode modem’ is Chioma? What manner of relationship goals is she talking about? She has no self worth. She stayed with a man who flaunts other girls and had 2 kids from 2 different baby mamas. Bla bla bla bla bla!

“Even those who have done eight abortions for three different men and men who have forced ladies to procure abortions even ‘get mouth to talk put’. They all joined in the bashing. Just as you shout that contraception and abortion is your right and a matter of choice. Keeping your baby and nurturing him is also a choice. It doesn’t matter whether you have them in or out of wedlock You see those baby mamas and Chioma who don’t really care about them, I salute them!”

Laxbon Nwa-Nri Austin Uchenna thinks the issue was not worth the fuss. According to her, “David is worth way above 40 billion naira and he gives Chioma a mere 45 million Porsche car which is like 1% of his worth and you won’t let your boyfriend rest. When you accepted him, didn’t you know his worth? Maybe he’s worth 1million and you expect him to get you an iPhone 7 to show he’s a real man, abi? Don’t forget real women take care of their men too.

Onyinyechi Uwaeme adds: And you think some ladies have not done better than this Chioma and yet gained nothing from men with lying lips? So why haven’t all the good, humble, submissive, non feminist ladies all received N45m SUV from their men? My brother, God favours whom he favours.

As far as Dozie Obi is concerned, Davido’s love life is not worthy of emulation. “I’m surprised seeing the so called Naija feminists trying to project Davido as the real definition of a real man. Dude had two baby mamas while still dating Chioma, if that’s what a real man means, I don’t wanna be one to my woman. I’m better than that.”

Maxey McKorage agrees: “If this is your definition of a real man, me ayam a fake man biko. I no get power jooh!”

Alvin Lovin adds: “There are better examples to use to drive your point, not a man that cheats a woman and buys her heaven and earth to mortgage her conscience…To even imagine the so called feminists applauding this nonsense is horrible…”

Ubani Ikedichi Emenike approached the debate from a lighter perspective: “I like the line about real men not “just taking her to bed” and “forcing marriage on her”. But which one be forcing marriage on her again? If the guy chop, clean mouth commot, na still trouble? Na you go still write articles with complains join am. Now e Don turn to force? People!!!”

However, just as the hoopla generated by the expensive birthday splash was about to settle, another gist emerged that Davido had secured a mouth-watering partnership and sponsorship deal with Dunes Centre, Abuja. The sponsorship deal for the production of “The Chef Chi Cooking Show” on television was sealed in Abuja.

For Prince Aderemi Ajibola, what took place between Davido and Chioma was pure love. He provided a different perspective to the argument. “It is no longer secret that Davido is seriously and madly in love with Chi for now and he is so deeply passionate about it. Even to the degree of hypnotic submission of love birds entangled in love and as necessitated by feelings and heartfelt body languages.

“But typically of the superstar of his pyramid and as controversial in nature as they are their moods and emotions can be very much unstable and unpredictable especially with tastes, glamour, likeness and preferences. It is mostly that of a seasonal euphoria of conditions and transient characteristics.

“Even the classical ones, the weird ones, the bohemians among them, and, of course, the cosmopolitan ones, there is no stable measure or assurance to how far they can go and the limit they can assume, or the surprise they can spring up, both in positive and negative measures. But the beautiful thing is that, love conquered all weaknesses.

“But we pray that things work for him and his cherished and found love. And for a star radiant exuberance and recklessness not to undo their union. As a megastar, and I believe he can still maintain a stable star man in his love/marital life. And despite all the flaws in stardom, it still possible to boom in marriage if they can manage and tolerate each other better.

Chioma, the Chef Queen:

Many are still wondering who this Chioma that Davido is flaunting, splashing money on and doing a special song to celebrate her birthday? Chioma, it was gathered, is a 300 level student of University of Babcock, who also doubles as a chef on part time basis. Her journey to fame and wealth started when she was contracted to cook for Davido’s crew. From taking care of his crew, she warmed her way to becoming his mistress and now the face of the music maestro. There are speculations that Davido and Chioma could officially tie the knot soon, ending his bachelorhood.

Davido definitely has a retinue of young beautiful women flocking around him and demanding for his attention, but his heart has gone after the one with something special – homely and great cooking skills. Every man’s wish is to have a partner who would take care of the domestic affairs well. A man is insecure with a woman who cannot protect him in his areas of weaknesses – domestic needs.

The way to a man’s heart remains the food. Men are very careful when it comes to the issue of life partners. A man is looking for substance when it comes to the choice of whom to live the rest of his life with. An African man is looking for a woman that can take care of the home front while he is out there fending for the family. This does not translate into turning you into a slave, but who wants to marry a woman that can’t take care of the children or the home?

Research findings show that many successful ladies who lack requisite home-management skills have endured miserable marital lives as misunderstandings arising from their inability to take care of feeding and other domestic affairs like taking care of the house and kids, have often wreaked their marriage. It’s, therefore, important that ladies who are aspiring to settle down with a man do their home work properly and learn basic home management skills.

Don’t be that babe who does not know how to cook good meal or do other household chores. Many of the so-called madams don’t even know their husband’s favourite meal or how to prepare them. The reason maidservants often end up in the bed with husband of madam is that most wives often leave important things like cooking of meals to them. And when oga begins to develop special liking for the food cooked by the maid and her mastery of taking care of domestic affairs, the maid, often times, gets promoted to a mistress. While such misdemanour, converting a maid to mistress, is not encouraged, the lesson is that an aspiring good wife must be someone that has something special to bring into the relationship.
