Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state, yesterday, challenged land owners to hasten action and obtained titles on their allocation or risk their revocation.

Ortom, represented by his chief of staff, Terwase Orbunde, said this while unveiling the World Bank-assisted states fiscal transparency accountability and sustainability programme on Monday in Makurdi, the state capital city.

He said, with the intervention of the international agency to collaborate with state government became imperatives for land owners to be captured  for  accessibility and  easy identification of their land.

“To this end, enumerators have been trained to capture every land on its map to ensure total elimination of speculators in the state, more so as the World Bank had indicated the desire to facilitate a loan of $1.5 m to lands, survey and solid minerals in the state.

Earlier, the commissioner for lands, survey and solid minerals, Mr.Benard Unenge had applauded the disposition of World Bank in granting the loan to his ministry, saying that, when granted, the funds would be judiciously applied for the purposes meant.

Unenge further gave kudos to Governor Samuel Ortom in the areas of land administration whereby since inception of his regime, issuance of certificate of occupancy charges were drastically reduced.

“I am optimistic that, perhaps, some of the measures taken to make lands accessible, including the poorest may be attributes which prompted them to enter into partnership with us to the extent of granting a loan $1.5 m, billed for release in August this year.”
