Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has identified inordinate ambition, greed and selfishness of leaders as some of the causes of conflict in communities.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo stated this yesterday while receiving the Amadaowei Designate of Adagbabiri Community, His Royal Highness Alaowei Broderick Okee, at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.

The Deputy Governor observed that most traditional rulers and other community leaders jostle for leadership positions for personal aggrandizement at the expense of community development.

According to Senator Ewhrudjakpo, meaningful development, peace and stability can only thrive when leaders across board practice love, giving, accountability and sacrificial leadership.

He congratulated the Amadaowei-designate on his successful emergence and advised him to pray for wisdom to overcome the challenges associated with youthful age and lead the community to greater heights.

The Deputy Governor also commended the people of Adagbabiri Community in Sagbama Local Government Area for peacefully nominating a new paramount ruler to fill the vacuum created by the eternal passage of the former Amadaowei last year.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo assured that the State government would perform its statutory role of presenting a staff of office to the new Amadaowei at the coronation ceremony billed to hold Thursday this week.

Speaking on behalf of the Adagbabiri Community, a former General Manager of Bayelsa State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Alfred Egbegi, expressed their gratitude to the Deputy Governor for his contribution towards the successful burial of the departed Amadaowei.

Describing Senator Ewhrudjakpo as a worthy son of Adagbabiri community, Mr. Egbegi said the Deputy Governor has in several ways justified the chieftaincy title of “Amatolomowei of Adagbabiri’.

He explained that the visit was to formally present the Amadaowei Designate to the Deputy Governor and invite him to the grand finale of the coronation activities.

In his remark, the Amadaowei-designate, His Royal Highness Alaowei Broderick Okee, thanked the state government for the ongoing renovation work on the Community Town Hall and promised to support the present administration. .

The Amadaowei Designate was accompanied on the visit by the Regent of Adagbabiri, Chief Friday Fouyou-Owei, the State’s Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dame Christy Ebbelli; and the immediate past Chaplain, King of Glory Chapel, Government House, Bishop Doutimi Egbegi.

Others included the former Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area, Hon. Cyril Akpoebi Biowei, a member of the Adagbabiri Council of Chiefs, Chief Jacob Sagbamaowei and the CDC Chairman, Mr. Preye Awolowo.
