Awka agog as Bayern Youth Cup Kicks Off

It is indeed another great opportunity for Anambra Youths as
German Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich begins a two-day youth Soccer Championship in Awka, Orient Sports reports.

The tournament, tagged FC Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria, is expected to end on Sunday, May 1, 2022, at the Awka City Stadium.

Orient Sports confirms that two Bayern Munich coaches and scout Christopher Loch and Hans Pfliugler are on ground to scout young Nigerians to represent the country in the Bayern Munich Youth International Championships slated for October this year in Germany.

Aspire Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman, Dr Emeka Okeke hinted that the programme was part of the many projects of ” My Anambra Football ” program.

The Anambra born philantropist was represented at Friday’s press conference heralding the 2022 FC Bayern Youth Cup, by Tobechi Onwubuche, who is the Director of Programs Design and Implementation, Aspire Foundation.

Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission, ANSSDC, Tony Oli, urged the FC Bayern team to consider Anambra State first when it wants to establish football academy in the country.

He said the state is blessed with abundant talents, having been a major supplier of talents to the various grades of the Nigerian National teams over the years.

“Though at a point, we appeared to have lost that status but with establishment of an ultra-modern stadium in the state, we are now back to continue from where we left off.

“This is the more reason why we deserve to be considered first for such project by FC Bayern”, Oli sounded.

Earlier, Victor Obinna Edeh, Chief Executive Officer, CEO, VOE Foundation, one of the organisers of the FC Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria, said no fewer than 10 players would be selected at the end of the tournament.

“They will be part of the 100 players that will represent Africa at the 2022 Bayern Munich Youth Cup Tournament in Berlin, Germany, in October this year”, he said.

Orient Sports reports that since the launch of *My Anambra Football, there has been deliberate effort led by Aspire Foundation at laying a foundation that will improve football standard in Anambra.

With this latest development, football Lovers have been greatly encouraged to come to stadiums for live matches by adopting a strategy that juxtaposes sports and entertainment.
