The Chief of Army Staff in Nigeria, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has affirmed the resolve of the military to continue to foster better and peaceful military civil relations in the country.
Lt. Gen.Yahaya stated the affirmation during the commissioning of an infrastructural project at the Saint Pius Xth Grammar School, Onicha Igbo in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday
The project included the perimeter fencing of the school and renovation of a block of four classrooms, sponsored by Major Gen. Lawrence Fejokwu.
Lt. Gen. Yahaya, who was represented at the commissioning by Major Gen. Sanni Mohammed, said that the gesture was one of the innovations introduced by the Army to foster military civil relations and also sustain peace and development in its areas of operation in the country.
He enjoined other senior military officers to emulate Major Gen. Fejokwu for his show of love and interest in the development of his community by embarking on the laudable project.
The Army boss also hailed the state governor, Sen. (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for the prevailing peace and security in the state, just as he commended the Obi of Onicha Ugbo, HRM Victor Chukwumalieze, for his encouragement towards the actualisation of the project in good time.
Gen. Yahaya affirmed that the military would continue to intervene positively in addressing infrastructural deficit, particularly in the education sector, in all parts of the country.
Major Gen. Fejokwu, who is the General Officer Commanding the 81 Division of the Nigeria Army, stated that he embarked on the projects to sustain the security of staff and students and to enhance effective teaching and learning in the school.
He expressed his appreciation to the Chief Of Army Staff who gave the approval for the commissioning as well as to his friends for supporting him to complete the project.
The principal of the school, Rev. Father Anthony Banye, in his opening speech said that the school was established in1960 had produced great men who were doing well in the state and beyond.
While thanking the Old Boys Association of the school for always coming to the aid of the school when it mattered most, the principal appreciated Major Gen. Fejokwu for his kind gesture in ensuring the security and protection of the school from vandalism.
