Anambra State Commissioner of Police (CP) Echeng E. Echeng has declared that the forthcoming governorship election on November 6 in Anambra state would witness a watertight security.
The CP disclosed this at the command headquarters on Thursday when he briefed newsmen on the preparedness of the command for the November 6 governorship poll.
He maintained the security of life of people who would troop out to vote in the election is paramount, saying the command has strategies in place to ensure a crime free and fair election in the state.
Echeng hinted that no fewer than 34, 000 security personnel had been deployed in the state and stressed that their presence would tighten the security bolt of the state and strengthen their weaknesses to prevent bad elements from perpetrating crime during the election.
The CP, who assumed office on October 8, 2021, emphasized that the command was boosted with AIGs and Commissioners of Police, who, according to him, would be deployed to man the three senatorial districts and local government headquarters of the state.
He said: “A comprehensive watertight security has been set up in the Anambra state to ensure there is no breach of peace and order during the governorship election in the state.
“AIGs have been deployed to man the different senatorial districts. The commissioners have been deployed to man all the local government headquarters in the state aside 34,000 officers deployed to the state. Those are some of the measures to ensure there is no security leakage in the election.
“Our deployment was very strategic and the arrangement aimed at enhancing public security and Safety. We assure people of the state that their security is guaranteed. We urge them to come all out and exercise their civic rights and responsibilities.
“The command had been bold in confronting security challenges and had recorded successes in curbing some of the crimes in the state. Everyday, we device new approach to tackle the crimes as they emerge because our mission is to fight all forms of violent crimes as we have done so much to ensure that there is peaceful atmosphere before during and after the governorship election in the state.
“The Inspector General of Police is very passionate and has psychological attachment to the Anambra State election and had provided everything that the state command had asked for including the helicopters for aerial surveillance, gunboats to patrol the waterways and vehicles to operate during the election”, the CP said.
While the CP emphasized that the command would be cordial and civil to the people of the state, he warned trouble makers to steer clear of the state as the command would not take lightly any form of misconduct or act that would threaten the peace of the people during the election.
He also urged people of the state to remain law abiding, support the police and report any security relevant incident as may concern the governorship election in the state.
