The Anambra state EndSARS panel sitting in Awka, the state capital, is said to have received the highest number of petitions in the country from aggrieved Nigerians against the illegal activities of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), of the Nigerian Police Force.

A member of the panel gave the hint while fielding questions from newsmen in Onitsha.

He disclosed that, “out of 320 petitions received, which is the highest in the country, the Anambra State EndSARS panel headed by Hon. Justice Veronica Ngozi Umeh, (rtd), has been able to treat 50 of them.”

“We are ever ready more than before to dispense (treat) all the cases before the expiration of our tenure.”

“The panel is made up of men of sterling qualities who have made their marks in various fields of human endeavour.”

Assuring Anambra residents that those found guilty will not go unpunished, he said, adding that compensations would be paid to the victims by the state government that set up the panel.

According to him “we succeeded in inviting some of the mentioned SARS operatives but some declined to appear and efforts are being made to ensure they are brought to book.

“The panel that is led by an impeccably jurist, Hon. Justice Veronica Ngozi Umeh (rtd) is capable of ensuring that justice is done to all. Those who declined must be brought before the panel. I will assure you that we will continue to do the needful to ensure justice is done to all and sundry by the 34-member panel.”

On the recent attack by unknown gun men at the police and Naval officers in the state, he condemned the attack and killing of those security operatives trained to protect lives and property and urged the government to ensure that perpetrators of the dastardly act are brought to face the wrath of the law. “Every government should try to protect its citizens by ensuring that banditry, herdsmen attack, kidnapping, among others are stopped.”
