Anambra drivers swear in newly elected executive members

The Anambra State Drivers Welfare Association, DWA, has sworn-in its seven-man newly elected executive members to pilot the affairs of the association for the next four years.

Conducting the oath of office on them at the association’s secretariat, Franobi Estate along Onitsha/Owerri road, Onitsha, their counsel, Barr. Chidiebere Ezem, urged them to abide by their oath of office and avoid any act capable of dragging their image to the mud.

In his post swearing-in speech, the new chairman, Chief Adindu Opara, pledged to abide by all the rules and regulations of the association.

Chief Opara stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to help move the association to the next level, vowing that he would leave the office better than he met it.

Others elected members were Nwabueze Nwaneke – Vice chairman, Awuke Bright – secretary, Anyadibe Kenneth – financial secretary, Chigozie Okolo-PRO and Chima Anthony
Chinagorom – provost.

The chairman urged two other defeated candidates, Chika Azunnanya and Obinna Nworah, to join him in moving the association forward, pointing out that he would remain loyal as an obedient servant.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees, BOT, Chief Silas Ejioffor, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the swearing-in and commended the drivers for the maturity they displayed during the event.

Earlier in his speech, Hon. Anthony Chukwuma Ogbu better known as Igwe for Boys, who was first president, former chairman/secretary, charged the government to rehabilitate the dilapidated portions of the roads the state, especially in Onitsha.

He also condemned the multiple levies being extorted from drivers, adding that there should be a unified system of payment of levies.

“The government should help and tell us the one to pay to and the ones not to pay to in a bid to prevent paying to wrong hands,” he said.
