Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) in Anambra State has extolled founding fathers of new Anambra state for their patriotic and unique wisdom in championing, agitating and advocating for the creation of a new Anambra, which materialized on 27th 1991 when President Ibrahim Babangida created it alongside other states.

The commendation was contained in statement tagged: “There Is Hope,” endorsed by the Chairman, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme and Secretary, Chidi Mbah, respectively.

According to the group, “People of Anambra should eternally remain grateful to Chief Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu, Dr Alex Ekwueme, Professor Ben Nwabueze, Dr Pius Ezeife, Prince Arthur Nwankwo and others for numerous sacrifices they made and still making towards not only creating Anambra, but also for greater and better Anambra state.

“Although the State has made tremendous progress, we are not where we are supposed to be. Where we are now is below expectations of our founding fathers and citizenry, hence concerted efforts and sacrifices with great effect needed to be made in order to improve and make our good better and our better best.

“CLO commend the first executive governor of Anambra State, Dr. Pius Ezeife for having laid the foundation for new Anambra and introduction of Think Home Philosophy that necessitates accelerated socioeconomic development of Anambra state.

“We thank former governors Chris Ngige, and Peter Obi for handing over schools to missionaries and his Sustainable Development Goals that guaranteed rapid development of all sectors of the state economy and the current government’s relentless efforts to sustain it.

“As our State is celebrating her 30th anniversary of her creation, few months to Anambra November 6 governorship election, we appeal most passionately to President Buhari to ensure free, fair, credible and general acceptable election as anniversary gift to people  of Anambra state as well as put machinery in motion towards creating new states for the southeast to keep it at par with other zones which is also in tandem with recommendation of 2014 National Conference.”

CLO also enjoined people of the state, even residents to work assiduously towards peace, progress and socioeconomic development of the state starting with the upcoming November 6 election.
