Patience is very important and valuable virtue, ever so critical for good interpersonal relations in marriages or relationships generally, these days. If you want a healthy, fulfilling marriage or any form of relationship, you just have to learn to be very patient with your partner or spouse, children and everyone around us. Patience in relationships means being patient, understanding and forgiving and it also means not getting easily angry or upset in stressful and unpleasant situations.

It is the ability to tolerate waiting, delay, or frustration without becoming agitated or upset. It is the ability to control your emotions or impulses and proceed calmly in the face of difficulties or challenges.

A healthy relationship is one in which we spend less time trying to reconstruct our partners and more time looking inward to bring our own personal best to the relationship. Love is patient, it is said.

Over time anger, frustration, resentment and so many negative feelings begin to set in. You either allow impatience to get the better of you, making you miserable and ruining any chance of a lasting, healthy relationship or you become patient.

Mr. Dickson Gabriel says, “In relationships or marriages today, lack of patience leads to breakups, heartache, separation and divorce but patience brings happiness and long lasting relationship”.

Mr. Okay Onyeka says, “When there is patience in a relationship, partners tend to forgive each other easily. It also fosters unity and peaceful co-existence”.

Mrs. Patience Udeh says, “Patience in relationships gives peace and it also produces or yields good fruits. Being patient actually can help you be successful”.

Miss Faith Comfort says, “Patience is love.  Patience and love go together. To separate patience and love is to separate lovers from their oneness”.

Miss Chisom Ugochukwu says, “In relationships today, when people see they are not satisfied with their spouse’s progress, they may choose to give up instead of being patient”.

Mr. Paul Prince says, “Patience helps in making a lot of difference in relationships as well as everywhere else one may find oneself. Be patient enough to understand what your spouse or other person wants rather than harping on your own needs”.

Patience reduces stress and makes you a happier, healthier person. When you learn and practise patience, you don’t get as angry, stressed or overwhelmed. You are more in control of your emotions.

When you are patient, you take the time to assess the situation on ground. The chances of making a big mistake lessen because you avoid making it in haste. Taking the time to solve problems requires patience.

Patience helps develop understanding, empathy and compassion. You are automatically more understanding and compassionate with others when you are patient. Patient people take the time to process what they go through and are able to determine what it takes to overcome obstacles.
