The Federal Government and Organized Labour have remained silent following their meeting earlier today.
Sources indicate that the discussions focused on the recent rise in petrol prices and its socio-economic impact on Nigerians, as well as the minimum wage. However, neither party has been willing to share the results of the meeting.
Meanwhile, leaders from organized labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), are currently conducting a joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Labour House in Abuja.
Petrol Price, Minimum Wage
Vanguard has reliably learned that the recent meeting aimed to address the aftermath of the previous discussion held at the Secretary to the Government of the Federation’s office. This earlier meeting focused mainly on the fuel price increase, minimum wage, necessary adjustments, compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, and fueling points, among other topics.
It’s important to note that government representatives at the SGF office meeting included Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Labour Minister; Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Information Minister; Heineken Lokpobiri, the State Petroleum Minister; Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas); and representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.
Joint NEC Meeting Roll Call
In attendance at the joint Organised Labour meeting are NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero, Deputy President Kabiru Ado Sani, General Secretary Comrade Emma Ugboaja, TUC Deputy President Dr. Tommy Etim Okon, and Secretary General Nuhu Toro. The President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), who also serves as a Deputy President of the NLC, is also present.
Additionally, Benjamin Anthony, NLC Vice President, and Comrade Deborah Yusuf, Deputy Women Leader of the NLC, are in attendance.
