Ijaw youths under the auspices of the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta, MOSIEND have vowed to continue the planned lockdown of the region over the refusal of the federal government to inaugurate a substantive board for the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

Recall that the umbrella body of Ijaw youths in the Niger Delta, the Ijaw Youths Council, IYC had given the FG a one-month ultimatum to inaugurate a substantive board for the NDDC or risk total shutdown of the region at the expiration of the ultimatum.

The youths, in a statement signed by their national vice president, Comrade Thompson Fuoye, in Warri, Delta state, said they were ready to take charge of the protest by converging in Yenagoa to take a stance.

Fuoye said that, despite the rumoured kidnap of the IYC president, 24 hours to the planned protest, MOSIEND, as an organ of the council, was prepared to go ahead with the protest, saying that the resolution taken by the IYC at the national expanded executive and stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt was binding on all organisations in Niger Delta.

He stated that it was insulting and laughable to hear that the president of IYC was kidnapped, adding that it was disappointed that a resolution taken by Ijaw people was being treated with levity.

He noted that, thenceforth, MOSIEND would not take any statement emanating from the IYC seriously, insisting that it would no longer allow the Ijaw nation to be ridiculed by persons who did not have the interest of the people at heart.
