There was pandemonium at Isu area in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Wednesday evening when a stray built reportedly from police gun hit and killed a fruit seller while attending to her customers in her shop at Onuafor market in the area.

The young girl of about 25, was the daughter of HRH Oshimili Agwu Nwukpa, I Onicha.

It was gathered that the girl was peacefully plying her legitimate trade of selling fruits at Onuafor Enugu, Onicha Igboeze; when she was gunned down by the suspected reckless “security operatives”.

Correspondent reports that the girl was a younger sister to the Ebonyi State correspondent of Daily Sun Newspapers.

It was further gathered that the victim who received first Aid treatment before she was being rushed to Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, FETHA, died inside a car around Awusa Quarters en route Abakaliki.

According to reports, while some say that the reckless shooters were policemen from Onicha Command Isu, other eyewitnesses insist that they were EBUBEAGU operatives that came in an UNMARKED WHITE HILUX from Isu to arrest a certain COFFIN MAKER for unclear allegations.

The brother told journalists that “Policemen came to my village, Enugu Onicha Igboeze in Onicha Local government area of Ebonyi State today, 8/9/2021 to harass residents.

“In the milleu, they shot and killed my younger sister who was selling fruits at the junction.  She died in my car at Awusa Quarters while moving her from the village to Abakaliki.”

The Wednesday shooting, however, is generating reactions in the state with sympathizers sending their condolences to the sun reporter as the sister died inside his car while he was rushing her to the hospital.

In her reaction via a Whatsapp message, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Loveth Odah described the incident as an unfortunate and unacceptable one.

She said, “This is very sad and unacceptable. Please, dear brother, Chijioke Agwu, take heart.

“I have informed the Police Authority of your complaint and we are seriously on it to unravel the team that exhibited this unprofessional conduct if they are Police officers”.
