Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has suspended another appointee, Mr. Clement Nweke, commissioner for housing and urban development, from office over what he described as insubordination and dereliction of duty.

Nweke was formerly principal secretary to the governor before he was removed and appointed a commissioner.

This is the second appointee to be suspended within the week as the coordinator of Ohaozara Development Centre was, over the weekend, also suspended for travelling outside the state without official permission, while the acting head of service in the state, Jennifer Adibe, was also withdrawn from the office all in one week.

Mr. Clement Nweke was suspended indefinitely on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 and asked to hand over with immediate effect.

A statement signed by Ugbala Kenneth, secretary to the state government and coordinating commissioner urged the suspended commissioner to ensure strict compliance to the directive.

“His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David  Umahi has approved the indefinite suspension of Hon. Clement A. Nweke as Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development with immediate effect.

“The indefinite suspension is as a result of insubordination and dereliction of duty.

“Consequently, Hon Nweke is directed to hand over all governmental (sic) property in his possession to the permanent secretary or the most senior officer in the ministry before the close of work on Wednesday 11th August 2021.
