The Anambra State House of Assembly has lifted its ban barring the state government from further recruitment of workers for the state judiciary and the Anambra cargo and passenger international airport, Orient Daily reports.
The House revoked the ban during its plenary session yesterday after the motion was filed by the member representing Njikoka 1 constituency, Hon. Timothy Ifedioranma.
The house had placed suspension on the recruitment of workers for the judiciary and airport after the lawmakers, penultimate week, protested being side-lined and denied information on such development in the state.
Giving reasons for the U-turn, Ifedioranmma explained that the two ministries had given satisfactory explanations for embarking on the exercise.
According to the lawmaker, the explanations were given when the commissioners for works and justice honoured the assembly’s invitation at the Assembly complex.
The 7th Assembly lawmakers supported Ifedioramma’s motion through a voice vote while the Speaker, Uchenna Okafor, passed a resolution that: “after due legislative oversight and appearance of commissioners for works and judiciary, before the honourable house, their explanations and commitment to applying due process in the employment process are acceptable.
“The resolution passed by this honourable house on the 13th day of July, 2021cancelling the employment or processes of employment at the Anambra International airport and the ministry of justice be lifted. The House resolved that the ministries can henceforth proceed with the employment of the needed staff at the Anambra international airport and ministry of justice, provided that due process is followed.”
They also resolved that the employment presently going on in the state be restricted to accreditation purposes and that further employment plan of the state should be made known to the public and due processes followed.
Also, at the plenary, a bill for a law to amend 2016 Anambra State Law on Mission School of Nursing and Midwifery scaled second reading after voice votes.
According to Somtochukwun Udeze (Ogbaru II constituency) who presented the bill to the House, the bill will help new nursing school in Alor, Idemili South in training more manpower in nursing and midwifery to meet the yearnings of the people of the area.
