Ekiti State government has issued a notice to quit to people it said are illegally occupying lands it acquired for agricultural purposes.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Olabode Adetoyi, issued the notice to quit when a team from the Bureau of Land Services and the Ministry of Agriculture went to erect cautionary notices on the land acquired by the state government at Ipao-Ekiti, Isan/Ayede and other areas categorized as agricultural zones in the state.
Dr. Adetoyi, represented by the Director of Land Services in the ministry, Mr. Akanni Bello, lamented that most parts of the have been indiscriminately encroached upon and therefore warned against further trespass.
“Anyone found encroaching on the land after the exercise will be made to face the full wrath of the law as the government will not hesitate to prosecute any illegal occupant of its land.
“The government has decided to paste notices on all the lands acquired for farming activities to inform all unauthorized occupants to vacate the land or take the proper channels for occupancy,” he warned.
Dr. Adetoyi, who said the lands were acquired in the public interest added that “It is not only unfair, but also a disservice to the entire people of the state if a few recalcitrant persons are allowed to continue encroaching on the lands to the detriment of the entire state.”
