The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), has praised candidates of different political parties gunning for different elective positions for the 2023 general elections for their display of maturity in addressing issues, as against name-calling and intimidation of opponents.

This is contained in a communiqué issued by the Anambra state council of the union led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu (PhD), at the end of its monthly congress on Thursday, at the Godwin Ezeemo international press center, NUJ secretariat, Awka, Anambra state.

Legit.ng’s regional reporter in Anambra, Mokwugwo Solomon, noted that the council also informed the electorate that the February 25 and March 11, 2023 elections are history beckoning, hence, they should tow the part of peace and ensure that hitch free election holds across the country.

It also urged the youths to shun all vices and violence associated with politics, and to use their votes to ensure that credible leadership is enthroned .

The union, which also decried Naira note scarcity and high cost of petroleum products, which have translated into high cost of transportation, and high cost of living, urged urgent government intervention because of potential danger they pose to the society.

It said, “President Mohammadu Buhari led federal government, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) should restore normalcy, and make petroleum products available, and at affordable prices before the presidential polls.

“It is also worrisome that citizens have monies in their various bank accounts; but do not have access to their funds in the financial institutions, Points of Services (POS), and ATMs. So, we use this medium to call on relevant authorities to reverse the situation in order to ameliorate people’s suffering.”

While commending the Anambra state government under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for massive interventions in roads across the state, the union also called on the state government to do well to offset arrears of Leave Allowances owed some ministries and parastatals.
