Wikimedia User Group Nigeria (WUGN), has trained no fewer than 28 librarians and other persons on improving, editing and creation of Wikipedia articles.
The physical and virtual training, which took place on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at the Nigeria Book Foundation, Awka, was themed, “1LIB1REF:
Outreach and Campaign Sustainability in Anambra”, aimed at improving, enriching Wikipedia contents across boards.
Taking participants through the rudiments of the Wikipedia editing, Dr. Ngozi Osuchukwu, who is from Wikimedia Nigeria Community User Group and a Certified Wikipedia Trainer, explained to the participants, processes involved in creating Wikipedia accounts, editing articles, adding citations, as well as seamlessly navigating through the space.
Dr. Nkem Osuigwe, the Director, Training and Education, African Library and Information Association (AFLIA), had, during the training, told her audience to leverage the opportunities inherent in the exercise to carve a niche for themselves.
Earlier, Mrs. Ada Obuezie, the online facilitator, who is also a member of Wikimedia Nigeria Community User Group, described the training as monumental importance and encouraged participants to keep practicing the exercise to add value to articles on Wikipedia.
In separate responses, participants commended the facilitators, trainers for the gesture, assuring that they would do their best to add value to Wikipedia contents. They equally called for more of such training.
