Rehabilitation work at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu has ruled out the magnificent edifice from hosting the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Preseason Tournament billed for November 14 through 20th, Orient Sports reports.
The tournament Will now be staged inside the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Polish Sportswear manufacturing giants, Select, in conjunction with former Super Eagles winger, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, have concluded arrangements for a preseason tournament involving no fewer than six top Nigria Professional Football League, NPFL, clubs.
Orient Sports understands that Nigeria’s foremost club, Enugu Rangers, Plateau United, Rivers United, Heartland, Abia Warriors and Kwara United have confirmed participation in the weeklong showpiece earlier billed to hold at the magnificent Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, otherwise tagged The Cathedral, in Enugu, but which has now been moved to Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
Reigning Nigeria Cup title holders, Bayelsa United and Apex Crane FC, a second tier Nigeria domestic league club amongst others.
Organisers confirmed exclusively to Orient Sports that the tournament will get underway on November 14 and will be expected to end on November 20 when the final will take place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, in the heart of Oweri, the Heartland State.
Tagged Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select NPFL Preseason Tournament 2021, the tournament is aimed at providing a platform for the clubs to knock their teams into shape ahead the 2021/2022 domestic assignments.
The former Nigeria international, who is the African Representative of the sportswear outfit, Select, played professional football in Poland during his illustrious career.“I have spoken with officials of Rangers, Plateau United, Heartland, Rivers United, Abia Warriors and Kwara United”, starts the former left winger when Orient Sports called him up.
“I’ve equally held talks with Bayelsa United and Apex Cranes and they have all spoken of their participation.
“Of course, the tournament will hold at Dan Anyiam Stadium from November 14-20. The ultimate aim is to provide a competitive platform for the coaches to get a proper look at their players going into the 2021/2022 season”.
