The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (RPCN) has  expressed concern over the peristent insecurity and escalation of violence in various parts of the country, urging governments at various levels to prioritize the nation’s security.
The  call was contained in a press release signed by the Church’s head of Media and Communication, Joseph Chukwu, a copy of which was made available to newsmen yesterday.

Chukwu  explained that the call was part of resolutions contained in a communique issued at the end of the 3rd General Assembly of the church held recently in Abakaliki.
The document urged governments at all levels to take appropriate measures to contain the ravaging menace of insecurity, violent killings and all forms of criminality threatening the unity and corporate existence of the country.

The Church  further condemned the near collapse of the healthcare system in the country due to the incessant strikes in the health sector, stressing that Nigerians demand proper medicare at home instead of travelling abroad for medical treatments which only a few could afford. The assembly also decried the spate of strikes in the education industry which it said had led to falling standard of education and lack of employment for graduates. It therefore  called for a review of the existing curriculum to include vocational training and skills acquisition that would guarantee self-employment on graduation. The church expressed dismay at the ugly plight of pensioners and called on governments at all levels to  give priority to the welfare of the pensioners who served the country faithfully. The communique added that neglecting pensioners’ welfare would discourage the workers who are still in active service from serving faithfully and diligently.“The Church condemns the seeming disunity among churches all over christendom and appealed for unity and love as a body of Christ to achieve the mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ. It said, “The Reformed Presbyterian Church of Nigeria commends Ebonyi government for its giant strides in infrastructural and agricultural development as well as its proposal to drastically reduce unemployment in the state,” the document read. The high-point of the general assembly was the election of principal officers to run the affairs of the RPCN for the next six years. Officers elected included; Rev. Chima Uduma, Moderator-General, Rev. Cornelius Eke, Secretary-General, and Rev. Aka  Ibiam, Deputy Secretary-General.

The election which had 101 accredited delegates that voted was adjudged free, fair and transparent and was conducted by a team of lawyers in the church led by Dr Ben Igwenyi.
