The government of Ebonyi state, on Tuesday, said that, from August 16, 2021, all motor parks in the state would be collapsed into one central motor park, located opposite the International Market, Abakaliki, the state capital.
He said the only exception to the new arrangement would be the Students’ Park at the Waterworks Road (Ishieke Park) which will continue to operate from the town and that the intention was to ensure that the motor parks operate from one location and enable the government to checkmate their activities.
Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi, commissioner for capital city development, made this known in Abakaliki while speaking to journalists on the plans of the state government to make Ebonyi state an international standard state.
He also said that the government shall soon commence four-lane road dualisation from Nkalagu to Onuebonyi junction and urged developers to be ready to suffer 100 feet setbacks of their properties from the current gutter areas.
According to Nwebonyi, the government is coming up with measures for the transformation of the state, in line with the master plan, adding that “by the 16th of August, we are moving all parks to the central park opposite the International Market from Centenary City gate down to the stream just like we have Utako Park in Abuja.
“The only park that will be left inside the town is Ishieke park, students park to carry students from the town to the university. We have held meetings with private park owners, many of them have paid. It is for everybody even as I speak many of the motorists are already there loading.
“Help us to educate the motorists that by 16th of August I don’t want to say another war but they must move to that park. It is not easy but somebody must take the lead we are enjoying this beautiful city today who did it? one man. If you feel that what am doing is out of the law, take me to court, he said.
“I want the people of Ebonyi state to know that from Nkalagu junction to Onuebonyi junction the governor has a good intent of expanding the road which will affect developers along that axis.
“We will be 100 feet setback from the gutter we want to add another lane to the existing double lane we want to appeal, to every developer from Nkalagu must observe that 100fit setback to enable the governor to add another lane which is geared towards opening the city to international standard.
“Secondly, if you look at some major streets of the city, you will see some buildings decaying. We want every landlord in this town in major streets, especially Waterworks Road, Gunning Road, Ogoja Road, Abakaliki/Ogoja Expressway to renovate their buildings.
“We don’t know maintenance culture. It is inherent in Africa but for us to have a beautiful city, we must have this maintenance culture. You see a house that was built in 1974 the roof is in a rickety shape; we must renovate it to meet the international standard.“We will give notice to that effect after 14 days we will start implementation.
“Now the third aspect is tree planting this is our supervisory role as a ministry. We have been telling people to plant trees the greener the environment the healthier the people. It is now a policy that every landlord in the capital city must plant a tree. It is no more optional it is now a policy and order gazetted under executive order of the state that as a landlord you must plant trees around your house.
