Activities at the University of Ilorin was paralyzed on Wednesday as the UITH, Chapter of the Joint Health Sector Union, JOHESU embarks on indefinite strike while Doctors strike persists.
The strike embarked upon by the union is said to have added to the injury of ordinary citizens of the country especially most of them that cannot afford the bills of private hospitals.
You will recall that members of the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD of the Teaching Hospital are currently on strike which entered week three.
The JOHESU strike turns the entire Hospital environment into near desolate situation when a crew of journalists visited went on assessment your of the environment with some non medical staff seen doing skeletal jobs in the environment.
The Chairman, JOHESU at the hospital, Mr. Olutunde Oluwawumi while speaking with journalists on the development declared that members will not return to work until the management pays at least 3 years of promotion and skipping arrears.
He said the strike became necessary because the hospital management does not care about their welfare as many of them who are due for promotion are denied.
He also accused the hospital management of deliberately failing to stock the hospital with drugs.
Olutunde said members unanimously agreed to embark on the indefinite strike at a congress held within the hospital premises.
While reacting to the strike, Head of Corporate affairs, UITH, Olabisi Ajiboye promised that the management will address their grievances.
