·The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has assured its customers in Awka, Ogidi and Ekwulobia in Anambra State, of improved power supply.
According to a statement issued by, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, the commissioning of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) 2x60MVA 132/33KV Station at Awka, Anambra State by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, last week Tuesday, in company of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano and the Managing Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC), Mr. Chiedu Ugbo will guarantee steady power supply in parts of the state.
The Managing Director/CEO, EEDC, Mr. Praveen Chorghade, who was also present at the commissioning expressed happiness over the project, stating that it is timely, and will greatly impact the service quality of electricity customers under its Awka, Ogidi and Ekwulobia districts.
He further disclosed that the 2 x 60MVA power transformers will de-load the existing 40MVA transformer, thereby drastically increasing the available distribution capacity by 300%. This would enable EEDC accommodate more load and energy to meet the increasing power demands of customers under its Awka, Ogidi and Ekwulobia districts.

“This is also a major stake in increasing efforts in line with our commitment to deliver improved supply services to our customers in Awka and our entire franchise area”, Praveen stated.
It was gathered that over 35 communities will benefit from this project. They include, Amansea, Egbeagu, Umuokpara, Orede, Ebenebe, Ugbenu, Okpuno, Mgbakwu, Umudunu, Abagana, Orofia, Eziawutolo, Amaenye, Ukpo, Abba, Enu-Ifite, Ezinato-Ifite, Agbana-Ifite, Umuayom, Umunnoke, Umuoramma, Umuokpu, Achallaoji, Umunamoke, Agbana, Umudiaba, Amachalla, Amudo, Umuzocha, Awkuzu, Aguleri, Nteje, Achalla, Ukwulu, Nawgu and environs.
It will be recalled that EEDC has in the past executed network expansion projects in Awka, geared towards improving the quality of service to its customers, which include, the construction of a 7.5MVA Injection Substation at ABS Awka, upgrading of lines, deployment of relief transformers and rearranging the supply network for a better supply availability.
Praveen also called on all the customers to reciprocate by prompt payment of their energy bills, as that would help EEDC sustain these installations and deliver quality service. He also enjoined them to develop ownership attitude towards its installations as an important life line in the electricity delivery to customers.
