A cult clash in Ilorin, Kwara State capital has claimed the life of a yet-to-be identified student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to a source, the cult attack which occurred at the Institute of Technology (I.O.T), mini campus area of Kwara State Polytechnic started between three suspected members of Eiye fraternity allegedly sparked off the attacks as they reportedly attacked another group while inside a car at the Kwara poly mini campus.
Consequently, members of the rival cult “Eiye”and its rival “Aiyee” were seen allegedly using dangerous weapons such as axes and cutlasses to attack each other in broad day light on Thursday afternoon, unchallenged.
The two students who sustained severe injuries were seen being rushed to a nearby private hospital in Adewole area to save their lives while the remains of the deceased was also evacuated and taken to mortuary.
“One of the Eiye group died on the spot while the other two have been rushed to the nearest hospital”, disclosed the source .
The source added that the attacks of the suspected cultists in the car have provoked a retaliations as the students were seen mobilizing themselves for a counter-attack.
The situation has escalated and spilled over to town, outside the School premises as it has degenerated to Surulere area as people were seen scampering for safety
The development has forced many offices including commercial Banks operating around that axis to close their gates abruptly.
Presently, security has been beefed up around those areas so as to prevent further break down of law and order.
Contacted, Spokesman of Kwara State police command SP Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the incident.
“Police have been deployed to the affected areas to maintain peace and security. They are still there as I speak. I will give details about the arrest and other related issues later”, he said.
