The Western Nigeria Security Network, Amotekun Corps, Osun, has revealed that it will not disclose the identity of informants who give them information about the hideout of criminal elements in the state.

This is as the act of hiding the identities of criminals by residents of the state instead of exposing them on time has been described as uncalled for, a situation which has made residents complicit and criminal activities thrive.

This disclosure was made by Amitolu Shittu, the field commander of Osun Amotekun Corps during a radio programme Monday in Osogbo.

While giving assurance to always protect the identities of Amotekun informants, Shittu charged residents to expose the criminals and also desist from hiding or protecting criminals in their various communities, adding that this hindered effective discharge of their assignments.

Speaking on the robbery incident on Thursday in Iree town, Shittu applauded the efforts of the security agencies, especially the Amotekun personnel, for chasing the armed robbers until they had to abandon four of their escape vehicles before escaping into the bush.

While reiterating the commitment and zeal of the Corps in the state towards the apprehension of criminals, Shittu revealed that, on many occasions, the security agency had had to arrest criminals after information from members of the public and promptly handed them over to the Nigerian Police and Department of State Security (DSS) for further investigation and prosecution.

He also explained that Amotekun was different from other security outfits said to often expose the identities of their informants urging residents to dial 293 in emergency situations and to visit the Amotekun Corps office when they had any vital security information to share.
