The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Anambra State Sector Command has restated its commitment to rid underage drivers off the state roads.

The Sector Commander, Adeoye Irerewuyi who disclosed this to reporters said their decision resonated from the proliferation of underage drivers, especially among tricycle riders in Awka and other towns and cities in the state.

Irerewuyi explained that the Corps has strong road use laws which put the legal driving age in Nigeria from 18 years and above.

He said, “We will leave no stone unturned in clearing the roads of both underage and unlicensed users. Our mobile courts are always ready to eliminate such cases as most defaulters operate without a valid driver’s license.”

Reacting to complaints by motorists on difficulty in the processes of obtaining driver’s license in the state, the FRSC boss said that the processes have been simplified from the previous phase.

“The whole process has been simplified from the initial phase to the final stage, with the timeline for obtaining a valid license not taking longer than 14 days after the final process,” he said.

Irerewuyi also cautioned against wrong overtaking, revealing the several considerations to look out for before overtaking as contained in the modified highway code of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
