The Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, Anambra State chapter, has condemned in strong terms, the incessant destruction of lives and property by suspected herdsmen, terrorists and unknown gunmen in Nigeria.

The state chairman of the association, Venerable Joseph Nweke, who made this known during its state executive council meeting held at Emmanuel Anglican church premises, Inland Town Onitsha, urged the federal government to look into the demands of the various secessionist groups with the view to solving them.

Venerable Nweke said he has observed with dismay the gruesome murder of many innocent citizens occasioned by the incessant attacks by Fulani herdsmen and unknown gunmen.

He also urged the Chief Security Officers at both Federal and State levels to step up efforts towards taming this tide.

According to him, “We urge the federal government to give fair hearing to the different agitators for self-determination that includes Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho. We insist dialogue is the best approach towards unity and justice.”

The Christian association further frowned at the activities of some security agents who mount road blocks where they only extort money and humiliate the populace and therefore urged governments to look into the situation.

It however commended Governor Willie Obiano for his infrastructural development strides in the state, especially with the execution of the Anambra International Cargo Airport project.

The association prayed for more blessings upon the governor and his administration and appealed to politicians and their parties to conduct their campaigns for the November 6 governorship election in a way that will show the world that Anambra State is really a Christian State.

“CAN prays for all Christians that emerged as gubernatorial Candidates in all the political parties and we embrace all of them as our sons and daughters. God will choose one of them to lead Anambra State and such a person will receive our collective support.”

CAN which charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct credible, free and fair gubernatorial election in the state to minimize post-election litigations and disagreements, urged the youths not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs or to incite violence during the electioneering campaigns; while it challenged all eligible citizens to ensure they obtain their voters card before the election period.
