A business mogul and traditional leader, HRH Olatunde Oginni has instituted a lawsuit against the Oyo State Police Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko, the Area Commander of Iyaganku, ACP Sunday Oke,  DSP Yussuf Olalekan Are and nine others seeking 100 million damages against all the respondents for his illegal arrest and detention between 28th and 29th May 2021.

The suit was filed by Oladipo Olasope SAN law firm on behalf of the Monarch at the High Court of Justice, Oyo State of Nigeria in the Ibadan Judicial Division, Ibadan.

The respondents in the case according to the charge sheet allegedly breached the Fundamental Human Rights of the Applicant as enshrined in the 1999 constitution (As Amended).

“That the arrest and detention and constant invitation of the applicant by the respondents over a purely civil matter of Landlord/tenant relationship is a breach of the constitutional right of the applicant.”

It will be recalled that the monarch had earlier through a petition written by his Counsel, Oladipo Olasope SAN & Co, alleged and accused the Sommissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko of taking side in a tenancy case between HRH Oginni and some aggrieved tenants after allegedly taking bribe.

“He seemed not satisfied after the petition he wrote to the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Police Complaints Commission.

In the petition made available to newsmen, Oginni challenged what he described as high-handedness of men of the Oyo State Police Command.

“Our client was only released after DSP Are had collected the sum of 50 thousand naira from our client based on the instruction of ACP Oke-(the Area Commander). Despite the resolutions of the disagreement between the two parties, DSP Are and ACP Oke have not ceased from threatening our client with arrest and further detention”, the petition alleged in part.

The monarch also claimed that the “Police from Iyaganku Police Division denied me of fair hearing after unlawfully arresting my aides who are watching over my property-(HRH Olatunde Oginni retail market at Dugbe, Ibadan) where some hoodlums that were protesting over tenancy issue threatened to destroy the edifice after collecting gratification. They were detained for nine days at Iyaganku Area command.

I can boldly say that CP Onadeko is not competent to secure a volatile State, such as Oyo as its evident in many security breaches we are experiencing here under her watch,” he further alleged.
