Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Adeoye Irelewuyi, has called on Special Marshalls in the state to carry out their complimentary role of traffic control with every sense of responsibility.
Irelewuyi who made this call in a press briefing, said the Special Marshals as volunteer arm of the Corps, must realize that their jobs were more of sacrifice, warning against selfish tendencies.
He frowned at the Marshals who show less concern while driving past traffic congested areas as well as those who only stopped to clear traffic just for them to navigate leaving others stranded.
The FRSC boss said, “As Special Marshal, you don’t just get to a gridlock and be looking away or only clear the traffic for you to pass, but try to find a solution to the traffic.
“If it means calling on the regular or other Special Marshals for assistance, you should do that. You shouldn’t be selfish while carrying out your duties.”
Irelewuyi also expressed concern over the limited number of Special Marshals in the State occasioned by recent election, assuring that the commission will soon engage new corps and carry out reorientation of officers.
He added, “Special Marshals in Anambra have a peculiar case because they have just concluded their elections. Secondly, we have not had recruitment for about two years now. So the number is seriously depleted.
“We are working on increasing their number and to have a reorientation for the new set. Once that is done, you will see much difference because they can work till anytime depending on the peculiarities of their area.”
On the Corps’ plans ahead of the ember months, the FRSC boss assured its preparedness in view of the expected increased traffic.
“We will be marshaling all resources, including massive deployment of personnel to ensure FRSC visibility and presence on major roads as well as increased public enlightenment.
“We will work with the theme when released to fashion out strategies we are going to use. It will also determine the flag off location,” he added.
