Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has called on market women association leaders to assist the government to sensitise their members on the new system of collecting revenue in the state.
Shaibu made the appealed on Friday when he had a stakeholders’ meeting with Edo market women leaders in Government House, Benin.
He said the new electronic system of collecting revenue would enable the state government eliminate the issue of double taxation.
The Dep. Governor had on Tuesday visited the Oba market and the Uselu market, to demonstrate the use of the new electronic system to some traders.
He urged them to comply with the system, adding that it would help the state government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
Speaking on behalf of the women, the leader of the market women, Mrs Josephine Omoregie, lauded the state government on the new system of collecting revenue from traders.
Omoregie vowed to do her best in educating market women in the state, assuring that market women would give their support to the initiative, to enable the state government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
She, however, appealed to the state government to provide security, electricity, toilets and water in all the markets in Benin. (NAN)
