Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, says the seven victims of the recent suspected Fulani herdsmen’s attack in the state would be buried today. They were reportedly killed in Mbamondu last Saturday within the state capital city while about five others escaped with severe injuries.

Governor Ortom, on a visit at Bishop Murray Hospital, where the survivors were undergoing treatment, expressed shock at the level of brutality meted out to the affected people by their attackers. He reiterated his administration’s willingness to commit the decreased to mother earth today.

He condemned the attacks and killing saying that, despite the intimidation and killings, aimed at forcing a repeal of the state’s anti-open grazing law it would amount to cowardice if “I yielded to their clandestine intentions.”

The governor used the opportunity to offset the bills of over 200 patients who could not afford to settle their bills.

Earlier, the Catholic priest in charge of the hospital, Rev. Fr, Peter Kparevve applauded the humanitarian posture of the governor toward the people of the state.

Kparevve described this as second to none for his citizens and recalled with nostalgia, that he instituted free treatment for snake bite for peasant farmers over 14 years ago.
